The Dianne Hauger Memorial Chapter Scholarship:
The 2023 Dianne Hauger Scholarship was awarded to Ms.
Anna Dineen, teacher candidate from Woodward Middle School and Ms. Su-A Kim, social studies teacher at Poulsbo Mijddle School.
Alpha Sigma Chapter annually offers scholarships/ grants-in-aid to educators employed in Kitsap County schools (public or private). Applicants must be pursuing post baccalaureate degrees or certifications, National Board certification OR be a currently employed para-educator working toward initial teaching certification. The scholarship/ grant-in-aid is named in memory of Dianne Hauger, a forty year member of Delta Kappa Gamma and an outstanding educator who promoted the scholarship fund for the Alpha Sigma Chapter.
To apply for a scholarship/ grant-in-aid, the applicant must complete a written application and interview, plus provide proof of enrollment in a graduate or advanced certification program. Complete details of qualifications and the application procedure are contained in the scholarship brochure.

Washington State DKG Stipends and Rachel Royston Scholarships:
The Rachel Royston Scholarship is awarded annually to women educators in Washington State who are pursuing post baccalaureate degrees in the field of education. Scholarship applications are due in November, interviews and screening held in February and awards announced in March/April of each year. Scholarships may be renewed. Scholarship awards are typically in the amount of $1500 to $2000. For DKG members with two or more years in the state, Washington State DKG offers scholarships and stipends for personal or professional staff development. Scholarships support post baccalaureate work or, for para-educators, initial teacher certification. Stipends are given to members for specialized studies, workshops, conferences, and travel study. Applications are due by February 1st of each year and may be downloaded from the state web site: www.deltakappagamma.org/WA .
DKG International Education Foundation Scholarships and Grants
One of the benefits of membership in Delta Kappa Gamma is the opportunity to apply for significant scholarship assistance for master's or PhD. work (from $6,000 to $10,000). Smaller grants are also available for a wide range of professional and personal development programs, including travel study, and conferences, seminars. Members and non-members may apply for project grants from the DKG Education Foundation. For complete details on the variety of scholarships and grants available, along with application timelines and procedures, check the DKG Education Foundation web site: www.dkgef.org.
A special leadership seminar is sponsored at the University of Texas, Austin, every other year, almost completely funded by Delta Kappa Gamma International. The seminar brings thirty DKG members from around the world together for an intense two week experience with University faculty. For details, see www.dkg.org.

2021 Outstanding Educators Recognized
On April 27, 2021, the Alpha Sigma Chapter had the pleasure of recognizing 14 exceptional Kitsap County educators at its eleventh annual Outstanding Educators Award Ceremony. Held via Zoom, the honorees were celebrated by over 75 family, friends and colleagues in attendance. The ceremony included a welcome song from the Chief Kitsap Academy singers, a brief keynote address from Poulsbo Mayor Becky Erickson acknowledging the "heroric" efforts of educators during the pandemic. Congressman Derek Kilmer, via pre-taped remarks noted that legislators need to have "the backs" of teachers an provide more support in the form of mental health counselors and resources. Each recipient received a certificate and a gift certificate from Starbucks Coffee, courtesy of Katie Akers, regional manager. Recipients included:
